# What You'll Need:

01 - 4 cups whole milk (substitute plant-based milk for vegan option)
02 - 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup

03 - 2 cinnamon sticks
04 - 4 whole cloves
05 - 4 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
06 - 1 star anise
07 - 1-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
08 - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

09 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
10 - Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

# Directions:

01 - Place milk, cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom pods, star anise, and sliced ginger in a medium saucepan.
02 - Set saucepan over medium heat and bring mixture just to a simmer, stirring occasionally.

04 - Stir in honey or maple syrup, ground nutmeg, and vanilla extract if using; simmer for an additional 2 minutes.
